I think you could list just about anything off of those "Graveyard Classics" albums and you'd be in the same ballpark.

I'm trying to decide if Six Feet Under originals are better or worse than the covers they've done.

Hmmm.... Nope, too hard of a decision. It's a tie.

Six Feet Under both sucks and blows.

sodom's iron fist and edge of sanity's blood of my enemies are some favs. of mine

another one is Nevermore's "Love Bites" cover:

it picks up about half way through to regular tempo. I love the slow Alice in Chains esque riff though.

When you say metal covers are you saying any song covered in a metal fashion or are you saying anyone covering an originally metal song?

I gonna agree with Death's cover of "pain killer". I can't help. It sing along when it comes on.
Also, I nominate Katatonia's "nightmare over the sea" as awesome cover.

I would almost venture to say that I might love Death's cover of "Painkiller" more than the original...

Having the cover be better than the original is not a new thing, nor exclusively a metal thing. After all, "Along The Watchtower" was a fair Bob Dylan song, but fucking killed when Jimi Hendrix covered it.

Ditto for "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)". Decent as a trippy Fleetwood Mac song, but smoking when Judas Priest covered it.

I would also contend that "Am I Evil?" and "Blitzkrieg" were done better by Metallica than Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg, respectively.

One of my favorite covers, where the original was good, but the later metal version killed it? Sanctuary doing Jefferson Airplane's classic "White Rabbit":

(BTW: Dave Mustaine provided the outro guitar work from the 2:26 mark to the finish).

    A fairly lame* Beatles cover:

    A pretty good Beatles cover:

    A fucking great Beatles quasi-cover:

I like AIC, but this cover just didn't really do it for me. I do, however, like Grave.
